Explosion protected cameras

by Mark Rowe

Videotec is expanding its range of MAXIMUS explosion protected cameras.

The new MVX cameras are suitable the Italian manufacturers say for video surveillance and process control in harsh settings where the presence of gases or flammable dust can create a potentially explosive environment, as found in the oil and gas industries or marine and industrial sectors.

The MAXIMUS MVX cameras were designed to meet the international standards ATEX, IECEX, INMETRO, EAC Ex, ETL for Zones 1 and 2 (Gas), Group IIC T5 and T6 and for Zones 21 and 22 (Dust), Group IIIC T100°C and T85°C.

The new range includes Full HD, analogue and thermal camera models to meet different types of installation requirement. The visible cameras are equipped with motorised zoom for easier set-up. The makers point to the “plug and play” installation. The products come pre-fitted with multi-polar wiring to avoid the complex electrical connections that are typical of this type of device.

The housing is compact yet functional and is made entirely out of AISI316L stainless steel. Its resistance to corrosion is not only guaranteed, the makers say, but is also enhanced by way of several polishing processes.

The extended working temperature range of minus 60 degrees C to +65 degrees C (minus 76 degrees F to 149 degrees F), with a cold start system, allow the products to operate in harsh sites. The IP66/IP68 ratings are for protection against harsh weather and the submersion in up to 5 metres of water for two hours. Moreover the IP69 rating allows the device to be cleaned with high pressure water jets.

The cameras come with wiper. An explosion-proof washer kit is also available, allowing for cleaning of the front glass. Visit: www.mvx.videotecmarketing.com.
