Dual sensor day-night camera

by Mark Rowe

New from Arecont Vision is a MegaVideo Compact Dual Sensor day-night camera. The megapixel camera features a colour 3 megapixel (MP) image sensor with Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) with a monochrome 1.3MP image sensor for low light performance. Together the dual sensors ensure that the camera captures detailed images in changing lighting, by switching from colour WDR to monochrome when light fall below a specified threshold or by streaming both sensors at once. Also, WDR technology enables the new camera to capture high quality images even in scenes with highly contrasted lighting conditions.

Dr Michael Korkin, Vice President of Engineering at Arecont Vision, asid: “The new dual sensor camera is an excellent solution to a difficult real-world problem which video surveillance faces: when a wide dynamic range scene during the daytime turns into a very low light scene at night. Unlike the competition, our new camera offers no compromise between the daytime resolution and night-time sensitivity, and offers both, including WDR, in a very compact inexpensive package.”

The camera features dual H.264 (MPEG-4 Part 10) and MJPEG encoders, fast image rates, up-scaling on the 1.3MP monochrome sensor to 3MP, bit rate control, multi-streaming, forensic zooming and PoE.
