CCTV seminars

by Mark Rowe

The British Security industry Association has announced dates and details of seminars in April.

The events focus on the latest developments in CCTV legislation and technology, and the events will feature a presentation from the Home Office’s Centre for Applied Science and Technology (CAST) on the Government’s new code of practice.

The trade association says the seminars will discuss the ‘current landscape’ for CCTV and talk about the professional use of modern cameras, equipment, and IP connections, including energy-saving systems. They will also provide an opportunity to learn about the Government’s new Code of Practice from representatives of the Home Office.

Open to everyone with an interest in the CCTV sector, the half-day seminars run in Leeds and Windsor, on April 17 and 30 respectively. Free to attend for BSIA members, the cost to non-members is £60 – which includes admittance to the seminar and exhibition, followed by a light lunch.

The seminars are aimed at installers looking to update their knowledge as well as specifiers, consultants and security managers. Alongside the seminars, an exhibition will enable delegates to meet with a number of manufacturers and see products on display.

Among the speakers will be BSIA CCTV Section Chairman, Simon Adcock, who will provide guidance to end users on the production of Operational Requirements, and Chairman of the BSIA’s CCTV Technical Group, Mark Wherrett, who will look at the complex arena of camera and lens selection.

Simon Adcock says: “This event represents a fantastic opportunity for anyone with an interest in CCTV to catch up on the latest trends and developments in technology, with presentations covering topics as wide-randing as transmission, recording and control to energy saving, lighting and remote monitoring.

“With time set aside for questions and answers, delegates will benefit from individual advice from industry experts and Government representatives, and I look forward to sharing the broad knowledge and best practice of BSIA members with the wider CCTV community.”

Joining BSIA representatives at the podium will be speakers from the Home Office Centre for Applied Science and Technology (CAST, formerly HOSDB) – who will explain the Government’s Code of Practice relating to CCTV – and spokespeople from other BSIA member companies, including Tavcom, GJD, Honeywell and UTC Fire and Security.

David Wilkinson, Technical Manager at the BSIA, adds: “The success of last year’s technical roadshows demonstrated that there is real value for end-users in coming along to a local event to hear directly from industry experts. We hope that these new CCTV seminars will provide essential advice and guidance to all involved with purchasing, specifying and operating CCTV systems.” For more information see www.bsia.co.uk, email [email protected] or telephone 0845 389 3889.
