Burnley links

by Mark Rowe

In an upgrade to the town centre surveillance cameras in Burnley, millimetre wave radios have been installed from the US manufacturer Siklu Inc.

The 18 high capacity point-to-point mmWave links from Siklu connect 40 newly installed HD IP CCTV cameras from Hikvision to provide what the product firm calls fibre-like performance, low latency and real-time HD quality. This enables not only recognition but also identification of people, the firm says. The new wireless network and new cameras are part of the Lancashire Hub CCTV Centralisation Project, which has brought multiple control centers into a single location, Blackburn.

With the Siklu mmWave EH-500TX and EH-600TX radios, Burnley uses the licence free and lightly licenced V-band to deliver connectivity with 99.999 per cent link availability by operating over the uncongested 60GHz frequency and using narrow beams which are immune to interference, according to the product company. The radios also support PoE (Power over Ethernet) out so that the Hikvision cameras can be wired into the Siklu radios eliminating the need for more switching hardware.
The installer OpenView Security Solutions Ltd (OSS) integrated the new cameras with the HikVision iVMS-5200 Professional cameras. Siklu was selected by OSS after realising Burnley needed an alternative wireless frequency because its traditional 5GHz infrastructure is associated with a high level of interference. The project also means further cost savings by reducing and removing reoccurring leased line costs.

Andy Ward, Sales Director of OpenView Security Solutions said: “Siklu’s best of breed wireless solutions enable the delivery of scalable and resilient network infrastructures that support the provision of the highest level of service. The Lancashire Hub CCTV Centralisation Project is now arguably one of the most advanced and robust networks in the country.”

And Eyal Assa, CEO of Siklu said: “The Burnley town centre project with OpenView Security Solutions represents an innovative approach to delivering interference-free connectivity with significant cost savings. We are excited to work with OpenView Security Solutions and to expand access to mmWave wireless networks across the UK.”

The Siklu mmWave product line will be showcased during November at the Global MSC event, in Bristol; and at the Smart City Expo World Congress, in Barcelona, booth #F691, where Siklu will also conduct a live demonstration.
