Biometric readers

by Mark Rowe

Sensor Access Technology has launched the Bio Plus range of biometric readers, pictured.

The Bio range according to the makers eliminates the need to remember a pin code or carrying a card. It also removes the possibility of card theft, adding security for your building or a level of security for your higher security areas.

Within GuardPoint Pro all biometric enrolment has been integrated offering what is claimed to be a user friendly front end with no requirement for secondary software. The product comes with a range of card reading technology options, internal and external IP65 rated versions.

Case study

When an Islington, north London school, St Mary Magdalene Academy gained academy status and a new building was constructed upgrading the security to meet the demands of a modern school became part of the project.

As a busy school there had been many lost cards and sharing of cards. With ID being printed on the cards it was also raised a security issue for any cards lost by students. These issues were overcome with the installation of 45 biometric readers, offering cardless and keyless access into all restricted areas. The install has the school says proved highly reliable, increased security for all students and successfully reduced administration.

To reduce admin further the Guardpoint Pro was installed running an SQL Server and was linked with the school’s current HR database which populates GuardPoint Pro automatically.
