Survey of fire equipment

by Mark Rowe

A quarter (25 per cent) of European businesses are risking employee safety due to poor maintenance of their fire systems, according to research from Hochiki Europe, a fire safety product manufacturer.

In a survey of European fire equipment installers, one third (33 per cent) also stated that customers do not own an up to date fire detection record on site in accordance with the law. However, 86 per cent of customers in the region have shown their appreciation of flexible open protocol systems which facilitate seamless integration and upgrades when required, the product company adds.

Such rules as the Regulatory Reform Order (Fire Safety) 2005 dictate that UK businesses meet standards on quality of products adopted, maintenance of safety systems and shared responsibility to protect the workforce. Hochiki Europe has developed an online tool which asks the user on the performance status of a company’s products and suggesting methods of improving it.

Mark Smith, UK Sales Manager at Hochiki Europe, said: “It is crucial that businesses do not fall short when it comes to the assessment and maintenance of safety provision which is designed to protect employees and prevent accidents that may not be legislated for. We’ve partnered with skilled installers to determine where businesses can be better supported and developed a simple online tool which directs them to solutions that promote efficiency and optimum safety in accordance with the very latest regulations.”

The stats came from a representative sample of European fire and lighting system installers during January. For more visit www.hochikieurope.com.
