PIR detectors

by Mark Rowe

Two of the REDWALL outdoor PIR detectors from OPTEX, the SIP-3020 and SIP-4010, can now be bought with pre-fitted Luminite wireless transmitters and be integrated with any Luminite Genesis wireless system. The firms say this is for sites where the cost or practicality of installing a hard-wired perimeter security system is an issue.

The SIP-3020WFLT and SIP-4010WFLT wireless detectors, which offer a detection area of 30x20m and 40x10m and are designed to work with CCTV operations, are suited it’s claimed for Luminite wireless systems as part of an extension or retrofit, or for new wireless perimeter systems that need outdoor intrusion detection. Graham Creek, Managing Director of Luminite, says: “Optex has a significant share of the UK PIR detector market,” explains . “Supplying transmitter modules to OPTEX for its REDWALL detectors is not only recognition of the quality and robust nature of our RF wireless systems, but also an acceptance that wireless PIR technology is now an important and growing part of the professional intruder detection market. Wireless detectors are much quicker to install than traditional hard-wired systems and have less risk of error. They don’t require power or communication cable connections, so can be positioned on a site perimeter facing inwards without incurring expensive civil work. The advantage of perimeter mounting is a compelling reason to use wireless PIRs as it significantly reduces the risk of false alarms from detection “overspill” and sunlight reflections.”

Luminite has developed its wireless transmitter module to fit inside Optex’s REDWALL SIP housings. Critical alarm and tamper data, including intrusion detection, anti-shock and anti-cloaking, are separated from system management alerts, such as low PIR battery strength and weak wireless signals. The manufacturers say PIR system intelligence of this type increases the effectiveness and efficiency of CCTV systems, whilst further reducing the likelihood of false alarms. A total of 64 SIP PIRs can be used in each wireless system when used with Luminite Masthead receivers, giving a transmission range of up to a kilometre.

Takuya Okamoto, Managing Director of OPTEX Europe, says it is important to partner with the industry’s innovators: “Not only does this work to both our strengths and industry expertise, but it is a relationship that demonstrates the importance of providing wireless technology to the security and CCTV industry,” he says. “To make it a “one stop shop” for our customers, OPTEX can provide not only the detectors but all the Luminite Genesis devices from Mastheads to controller units and walk test instruments.”
