Motion detectors

by Mark Rowe

New from Bosch Security Systems is its Commercial Series of motion detectors. Bosch’s wall-mount motion detectors already includes Blue Line Gen2 series for residential and small commercial use, and the Professional Series for mid-sized to large commercial sites.

The Commercial detectors from wall to wall have a coverage range of 15m by 15m (50 x 50 feet). Features include First Step Processing to deliver a response to the first step of an intruder. Dynamic temperature compensation also ensures detection at virtually any temperature, regardless of room conditions it is claimed. Active infrared anti-mask detects materials being placed in front of or sprayed onto the detector. Sensitivity is adjustable with the flip of a switch to fit a range of commercial uses the makers say while reducing the number of models that installers need to keep in inventory.

When tested against common false alarm triggers under regulatory protocols, the Commercial Series reduces false alarms by more than 35 percent over detectors from other manufacturers, according to the company. Microwave Noise Adaptive Processing adjusts to background disturbances, such as a ceiling fan or hanging sign, to tell humans apart from false alarm sources. The sealed optical chamber prevents drafts and insects from affecting the detector. These detectors also feature small animal immunity up to 4.5 kilograms (10 pounds).

Installation time is said to be 43 percent faster on average than traditional detectors from other manufacturers. The new integrated end-of-line resistors simplify wiring requirements while the angled lift-gate terminal strip prevents incorrect wiring, the makers add. For mounting the installer has a self-locking two-piece enclosure with integrated bi-axial bubble level . Flexible Mounting Height allows the detectors to be positioned at 2.3m to 2.75m (7.5 to 9 feet) with no adjustment needed.

Multiple models

Two models are available. The TriTech motion detector certified to EN50131–2–4 Grade 2 uses a combination of passive infrared (PIR) and microwave Doppler radar detection with First Step Processing. And the TriTech+ motion detector certified to EN50131–2–4 Grade 3 with Anti-mask features higher sensitivity and anti-mask capabilities to detect materials being placed in front of or sprayed onto the detector. Both models offer selectable sensitivity and LED visibility as well as an adjustable microwave Doppler radar range to reduce false alarms.

The Commercial Series is now available for France and the UK, operating at 10.588 GHz. Visit www.boschsecurity.com.
