Access Control

White paper on buildings

by Mark Rowe

ASSA ABLOY Access Control has launched a new downloadable white paper considering the future of commercial building security.

The white paper, titled ‘Is the future of commercial building security built in, or bolted on’ is now available at www.assaabloy.co.uk/aperio and looks at issues faced by commercial owners. Concerns include employee theft, property crime and shoplifters, and the emerging issue of desperation crime entering police crime statistics.

The white paper also notes how the rise in sophisticated and complex access control systems can in itself be a problem for budget restrained facilities and security managers.

Says ASSA ABLOY Access Control Managing Director Damian Marsh, author of the white paper: “The latest Home Office report on business crime cites a two-third reduction against retail and wholesale business. But our own research suggests a very different story whereby crime is not falling, but changing in nature. In this white paper, we have attempted not only to raise awareness of these real issues but also to investigate how security and facilities officers can upgrade security cost effectively and fully utilise the plethora of access control solutions available today to obtain a safe and secure environment.

“By posing the question on the basis of security being built in, or bolted on, we are opening the discussion on what is really a very complex and challenging debate. We look forward to opinions, experience and comments so that together with our supply chain partners we can continue to deliver access control solutions that safeguard the future of commercial buildings.”

The paper is available to download at www.assaabloy.co.uk/aperio and encourages responses to a dedicated facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/ASSAABLOYUK
