Access Control

Marathon for charity

by Mark Rowe

MD of TDSi the access control manufacturer, John Davies, has completed the Bournemouth Marathon. He ran it in October in aid of Dorset and Wiltshire Children’s Hospices Julia’ House.

Afterwards John said: “I would like to thank everyone who has supported me, including all my sponsors, the team at TDSi and my wider group of friends, along with the spectators who turned out in force to cheer all the runners on. A marathon is a considerable challenge for anyone, but what really spurred me on was the knowledge that through my efforts and generous supporters, money was raised for such a deserving cause.

The sunshine on the day might have appeared to onlookers to be a benefit. John said: “It was warmer than I had expected, which proved to be quite taxing. I wasn’t able to manage my energy as well as I had planned, which resulted in a slower pace than I had been able to clock up during training. Despite the best efforts in planning, sometimes things don’t go according to plan, so you have to have the determination to overcome any adversity or change in order to reach your goal. That’s a valuable lesson for life and business!”

About Julia’s House

Julia’s House supports Dorset and Wiltshire families with life-limited children, providing respite care both in its Corfe Mullen-based hospice and in their own homes. Government funding only accounts for six percent of the £4.6m Julia’s House needs to raise in 2015 to maintain its free services for those that need it, so it’s vital that fundraising supports this shortfall. The charity is there all year-round and in a crisis, offering emotional and practical support, emergency respite and end-of-life care. It supports the whole family, not just the sick child, organising social activities for parents and siblings.

John added: “This is a very worthwhile cause, providing invaluable support to the people who need it most. I would encourage everyone to support Julia’s House in the excellent work that it does.” Although the Bournemouth event has now been completed, donations can still be made via John’s JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/John-Davies46/

John, pictured, is now recovering and training for the Marathon de Paris 2016 and London Marathon 2016 next April, and New York later in 2016. He said: “I’ve now had a good sports massage which was very beneficial. I have also planned a recovery run of three miles this week, as I need to focus on my next events. I have two marathons scheduled in six months’ time, and they are three weeks apart in April 2016. There is nothing like resetting the challenge clock!”
