The new Sherbourne Hall of Residence at the University of Warwick has a lockable electronic mailbox, made by The Safety Letterbox Company. Warwick’s on campus accommodation has over 6,500 bedrooms available for the 2012/2013 academic year. The latest of phase of this is the new Sherbourne development, about 10 minutes’ walk from the central campus. Six blocks offer 527 single bedrooms.

To handle Sherbourne’s student mail in a secure, controlled way, the university is installing 60 SALTO electronic mailboxes. These will protect against mail theft and identity fraud, provide security and access control to mailboxes with full traceable entry. The mailboxes will be integrated with the existing SALTO access control system which is already in place across campus, eliminating the need and expense of having to issue replacement keys to students as they will be able to operate and access their mailbox with their existing student ID card and room key.

Steve Davies, Sales and Marketing Manager for The Safety Letterbox Company says: “By incorporating the Salto locking option onto our mailboxes The University of Warwick have not only increased the security of their mailing systems but have also reduced the cost and administration time of re-issuing lost keys to students.”
