Fraud fighters, 02/04/2008
Experian, the global information services company, reports that it has bolstered its anti-fraud capabilities with the appointment of four fraud fighters from the financial services industry.

Jonathan Walsh, formerly of Barclays, GE Money and Egg, has been appointed Head of Fraud Consultancy; Chris Farmer, has joined as Application Fraud Product Director from the Co-operative Bank; Sarah Weir, previously at National Australia Group, joins as a Fraud Analytical Consultant; and Richard Wood, formerly of Morgan Stanley Bank International, joins as a Fraud Solutions Consultant.

Walsh will lead Experian’s fraud consulting team in providing client support throughout the EMEA and Asia-Pacific regions. He held senior fraud, risk and product management roles at Barclays, GE Money and Egg. While at Egg, Walsh set up the application fraud detection capabilities for its businesses in the UK and France before moving on to manage its internet customer acquisition channels and processes. He has commercial experience gained from managing Egg’s Unsecured Loan business and has performed similar roles at GE Money and Barclay.

Farmer will be responsible for driving product development, marketing and sales support for Experian’s application fraud services to help reduce fraud losses for clients. Farmer was Risk Manager for Co-operative Bank, responsible for its application fraud strategy across all product portfolios. Before, he worked for MCL Software (now an Experian company), where he was responsible for rules configuration, consultancy and report development. He also has a decade’s experience working in retail, for Tesco and then Sainsbury.

At National Australia Group, Weir created, implemented and monitored application fraud prevention strategies for personal loans, credit cards, home loans and current accounts. Prior to this she worked for Green Flag, part of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, and at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

And Wood, who started his career as a fraud investigator at Northern Rock, joins from Morgan Stanley Bank International, where he set up and managed its fraud department. Before Morgan Stanley he worked as a fraud investigator at CitiFinancial Europe, where he helped test and implement Experian’s Hunter II system.

Weir and Wood will both work with clients to monitor fraud trends and to configure, determine and implement best practice fraud prevention systems.
