Video recording for metro trains

by Mark Rowe

Synectics has won a contract to supply networked video recording for new metro trains in a major European city.

The fleet is being introduced to replace and supplement vehicles on a metro system between 2018 and 2021. Each train will feature the latest version of Synectics’ on-vehicle recording system with Synergy 3 at its core.

Synectics Synergy 3 (pictured) features networked recording, storage and superior retention of footage from third-party IP cameras. The open-architecture platform features diagnostics to identify and alert operators of any potential issues, the developers add.

Specified by Siemens, on behalf of the metro system operator, the surveillance firm had to prove its solution matched a brief in terms of form, fit, and function.

Jürgen Fuchs, Director Strategic Projects commented: “Rail is entering an era of insight, analysis and response that will genuinely transform services for both customers and operators. The tailored solution we are supplying centers around our Synergy 3 platform which manages onboard third-party systems or devices to mine, analyze and cross-reference data such as GPS, telematics, video, and signaling.

“The open architecture design allows it to scale in line with a customer’s objectives enabling new technology to be integrated at a time best suited to their specific requirements. This provides transport operators with real-time 360-degree oversight of operations over the life of the trains to deliver improved passenger experience with smoother, safer, less crowded journeys.”
