Transport Security Live

by Mark Rowe

Traditionally, air travel has been a target for terrorism. Yet modern technology and security protocols such as baggage checks and identification, have made air travel a less accessible target. Other mass transit options like trains, buses and ports are designed to be more easily accessible and are therefore harder to protect against an attack. Hence Transport Security Live, as part of the Security & Counter Terror Expo on April 19 and 20, 2016, at London’s Olympia

Peter Cook Founder and Director at Security Association for the Maritime Industry (SAMI) said: “Terrorists will stop at nothing to cause maximum damage and that includes targeting critical national and global infrastructure. Preventing these kinds of attacks has never been more essential especially as 90pc of all global trade moves by sea. Events like Transport Security Live are critical as they bring together a diverse group of professionals to exchange ideas in the hope of creating a safer and smarter transport network for all.”

Transport Security Live, a free-to-attend conference, running alongside the Expo, will feature international case studies and the latest on protecting transport networks, hubs and passengers, presented by figures in the industry. The two-day conference will bring together police, aviation, maritime, public transport, and rail, covering airport security, including the potential for UAV’s to protect critical aviation infrastructure, maritime security and boarder safety.

Those confirmed to speak include: Dvir Rubinshtein, Manager, Aviation Security Operation Centre, Israeli Ministry of Transport; Inspector Chris Boyle, Strategic Partnerships – Prevent, National Counter Terrorism Policing HQ; and Peter Cook, CEO, Security Association for Maritime Industry.

David Thompson, Event Manager of Security & Counter Terror Expo added: “Attacks on transport networks are becoming ever more frequent. The Transport Security Live conference will provide a fantastic platform to discuss the best practice and latest techniques that can be introduced to minimise the risks to transport networks and other key public and private infrastructure. The protection of transport networks has never been more important from a public safety perspective, but also tourism and the livelihoods of hundreds of people working in cities across the world.”

Other specialist free-to-attend conferences at the Expo will cover Cyber Threat Intelligence – presented by techUK, and Forensics Europe Expo focusing on all areas of forensic technology. The Expo is co-located with Ambition – the EPRR Expo – and Forensics Europe Expo. To register to attend Security & Counter Terror Expo visit http://www.counterterrorexpo.com/.
