Rail awards

by Mark Rowe

Rail stations on Abellio Greater Anglia’s West Anglia route have been granted ‘Secure Station’ awards for safety and security. Elsenham, Hackney Downs, Newport, Ponders End, Rye House, Silver Street, St Margarets, Waltham Cross, Walthamstow Central and Ware received it, bringing the total number of stations with ‘Secure Station’ status on the train operator’s West Anglia route to 35.

The Secure Stations Scheme is directed by the Department for Transport and the British Transport Police and recognises good practice where train operators have worked with the British Transport Police (BTP) and others on security measures at stations, taking into account among other things station design, management practices, security and passenger safety.

Andrew Goodrum, Greater Anglia’s Customer Services Director said, “We are delighted to work with the British Transport Police to gain the Secure Stations status for ten more stations on our West Anglia route. The award demonstrates to customers our commitment to providing a safe, secure environment for them and their property and we will continue to work to accredit more stations.”
