National Express contract

by Mark Rowe

The coach operator National Express has awarded Cordant Security a three-year contract to provide security at its sites around the UK after a competitive tender. The contract will be managed alongside the cleaning contract that Cordant Cleaning has operated for National Express for the past two years.

Under the terms of the deal, Cordant Security will provide manned guarding at National Express’ coach stations in the UK, selected bus depots and all Metro tram stations in Birmingham. The contractor says that bespoke solutions will be delivered at each site dependent on requirements. As many of the sites are in cities, are open late and can attract a range of visitors, a key objective is to protect National Express employees, customers and property, the contractor says.

Some 24 staff will be transferred under TUPE regulations and will undergo training with emphasis on customer service. The security and cleaning teams will work together to create a safe and clean environment for all with a single point of contact for all top level reporting, the contract firm adds.

Roy Brewer, Category Manager at National Express, said: “During the tender process Cordant Security demonstrated that they had an excellent understanding of the challenges we face day-to-day and a proven track record of successfully delivering strong security solutions in the transport sector. We were also impressed with their ideas for the next phase of security for us, which will look at areas such as technology and profiling.”

And Brendan Musgrove, pictured, Managing Director at Cordant Security, said: “National Express place their customers and staff at the heart of their business and so their care and safety is paramount. We are committed to fully supporting this and by working closely with our colleagues at Cordant Cleaning we are able to create additional value for this prestigious contract from day one.”
