Maritime accreditation

by Mark Rowe

GoAGT Ltd, a maritime security company, providing armed security teams operating in the Indian Ocean, has achieved Det Norske Veritas (DNV) accreditation for its Maritime Training Centre located in Galle, Sri-Lanka.

The centre, one of the first to be accredited, can train up to 20 personnel at a time in a variety of maritime security disciplines including Use of Force and Medical Training. GoAGT has been delivering in-house training at the centre to its deployed teams since 2010.

Gerry Northwood, Chief Operating Officer of GoAGT, said; “The achievement of DNV certification lays the foundation for the creation of a world-class maritime security training centre. GoAGT is currently working closely with City and Guilds to become one of the first training centres globally to offer the new Maritime Security Officer course, which will become the benchmark training course for Maritime Security professionals.”

The GoAGT Training Centre will be running its pilot MSO (Maritime Security Officer) course later this month. Having achieved ISO9001 certification in 2012, GoAGT is working with LRQA to become accredited to the new standard due to be launched in June.

Based in Norway, DNV is a classification body setting standards for maritime. The certification recognises compliance with DNV standard 3.402, the standard required of Maritime Training Centres.

Former Royal Navy Captain, Gerry Northwood OBE commanded an anti-piracy deployment around the Horn of Africa 18 months ago.

GoAGT Ltd. (Gulf of Aden Group Transits Ltd.) has been in operation since 2008 and annually provides over 50,000 man days of protection at sea and has protected in excess of 38,000 seafarers.

GoAGT now employs over 300 personnel and at any one time between 160 to 180 security personnel are deployed. GoAGT recruits from the UK Royal Marines, Parachute and other Army regiments with front line experience, as well as the Irish Navy, Estonian Army and Filipino Marines.
