Irish bus fleet with CCTV

by Mark Rowe

Synectics Mobile Systems with Wrightbus is delivering surveillance systems for 70 new vehicles for Dublin Bus.

The mobile CCTV product company already has a relationship with Dublin Bus, having supplied security kit for its 900 vehicles, since 2005. Dublin Bus, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ireland’s state-owned Córas Iompair Éireann Group, carries 118 million passengers a year and provides cross city routes, commuter services and sightseeing tours. The new buses are part of the 25 million euros fleet replacement.

Featuring the Synectics’ T Series digital video recorders (DVR), each new bus has 13 colour cameras, capturing high resolution internal and external footage. The 70 new double deckers will operate on six routes across Dublin. As well as the CCTV, they feature free Wi-Fi for passengers and bilingual passenger information signs in the upper and lower saloons to announce the next bus stop.

Paddy Doherty, CEO at Dublin Bus says: “Our new fleet has been designed to enrich the journey experience and heighten safety for both passengers and employees.
“The new surveillance systems ensure we capture high quality footage on-board our vehicles. As well as helping us to deter anti-social behaviour, this allows video evidence to be quickly pinpointed should it be required.” And Jeff Fail, Managing Director at Synectics Mobile Systems, adds: “It’s great to be continuing our journey with Dublin Bus and work with them to provide advanced surveillance technology for their elite new fleet. The equipment we’ve supplied is designed to withstand the demanding conditions prevalent on passenger service vehicles such as these. Footage will be captured at a high resolution and frame rate, so people can be clearly identified and split-second incidents aren’t missed.”
