by Mark Rowe

The product manufacturer Morpho (Safran), through its subsidiary Morpho Detection, reports a contract with London Heathrow Airport Ltd. to supply 45 CTX 9800 DSi explosives detection systems (EDS) to screen all in-gauge baggage in Terminals 1,2,4 and 5.

After competitive testing, Heathrow selected CTX 9800 for its in-gauge baggage to enhance screening capabilities and ensure compliance with U.K. Department for Transport regulations mandating Standard 3-approved EDS to screen all hold baggage by September 2018. Under terms of the agreement, Morpho will provide logistical and service support and MUX multiplexing software to enable central station and airport-wide networking capabilities.

After deployment, Heathrow will operate the largest fleet of Morpho CTX EDS outside the US.

Karen Bomba, president and CEO, Morpho Detection, said: “By reducing false alarms and time-intensive manual inspections of checked luggage, CTX 9800 is delivering on Morpho’s commitment to help airports prepare for approaching regulatory mandates and security challenges.”
