Gatwick goes IP

by Mark Rowe

Gatwick Airport Ltd has appointed Tyco Integrated Fire & Security to deliver a large-scale CCTV Video Management System (VMS) at the Sussex airport. The project will see Tyco replace the site’s existing technology, with an IP-based system.

Works began in August 2015 to replace the CCTV. The fire protection and security company products company says that its staff, with airport project experience, worked with Gatwick’s IT department, to produce a resilient, enterprise level design.

The NICE Vision VMS product will include the NICE Situator (Situation Management) platform. This IP-based system will allow for integration to access control, fire and baggage systems, as well as supporting video analytics. The first phase of the project is under way and is due for completion in early 2016. During this phase, Tyco engineers will install the core system and configure the first 500 Axis network cameras.

A further support phase will see Gatwick engineers expand the system further, to the projected site system capacity of around 3750 cameras.

Under the terms of the agreement, Tyco will also deliver a five-year support package. Matthew Durdin, Sales Manager at Tyco, said: “With extensive experience in delivering bespoke solutions for airports, our engineering department worked closely with the team at Gatwick to design an updated, cost-effective CCTV solution with market-leading performance.” Visit: www.tycoisys.com.
