Dubai maritime date

The Security Association for the Maritime Industry (SAMI), the trade body for the maritime security sector, is attending the Seatrade Middle East Maritime Exhibition & Conference from November 27 to 29, 2012 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

SAMI representatives will be in attendance at stand D17, Hall 5 in the SAMI Security Pavilion, and will be pleased to meet with members and visitors who have an interest in maritime security matters. The stand will be a hub for maritime security providers as well equipment, technology and hardware solutions through to those engaged in the security of the commercial shipping industry, Cruise, Superyacht, Offshore Oil and Gas sectors and ports.

As the London-based body says, it has been a time of rapid change and evolution in the maritime security industry, and SAMI Founder and Security Director Peter Cook will be on hand to discuss matters relating to rules for the use of force and the imminent launch of the new ISO Standard for armed guards, ISO28007.

Peter Cook will be speaking at the Conference on Wednesday 28th November during the Piracy and Security session 16.30-1830. This session will assess the current state of the maritime industry’s response to piracy and how best to move forward in developing a safer, more effective and more accountable defence against piracy.

The team will also be pleased to discuss issues, such as what may happen next with piracy, and the effect of the supposed down turn off Somalia as pirates suffer the combined effects of military and private security intervention. There will also be discussion on ship protection measures and the latest solutions being used to best effect off Somalia, and also other piracy problem areas such as West Africa and the Malacca Straits. While SAMI will also be demonstrating the online maritime security industry portal, the BRIDGE. SAMI is supporting the release of a new Maritime Security publication from the Nautical Institute – and on the Thursday, November 29 SAMI hosts a member’s reception and book launch at the Novotel World Trade Centre.

Peter Cook will be speaking at the conference on the Wednesday, November 28, during the Piracy and Security session from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. This session will assess the state of the maritime industry’s response to piracy and how best to move forward in developing a safer, more effective and more accountable defence.
