Crossrail doors

by Mark Rowe

Allegion has won contracts totalling £1.25m, which will see the firm provide 600 steel doorsets for the Crossrail construction project in London.

Allegion (formerly known as Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies) was appointed by Canary Wharf Construction Ltd – a wholly owned subsidiary of Canary Wharf Group plc – to supply Martin Roberts fire, acoustic and over clad steel doorsets. About 350 doorsets will be supplied below ground for The Canary Wharf Crossrail Station, which is set to be one of the largest of the ten Crossrail stations planned for London and the south east. Some 250 doorsets will be supplied for the six-storey above ground development which includes 100,000 square feet of retail space and roof-top park.

Further contracts have been secured with sub-contractors, including building envelope contractor, Lakesmere/ McMullen, who have instructed Allegion to provide door sets for the above ground retail and leisure space.

David Keeble, Area Sales Manager, at Allegion, said: “This tranche of major contract wins is extremely significant for Allegion, both in terms of the combined contract value and the opportunity to work on the highly prestigious Crossrail project. This is not only the biggest infrastructure project in Europe it is also going to leave an enormous legacy for the UK. Of course the nature and scale of Crossrail bring with it many complexities, and this is where Allegion’s strong heritage and vast experience have already proven to be of immeasurable benefit. For example, with aluminium over clad, standard painted, stainless steel and vitreous enamel doorsets being supplied, Allegion has obtained further assessment and fire approval from Exova Warringtonfire to ensure the doorsets comply with regulations.

“The Allegion team worked incredibly hard to secure the contracts – we knew the entire industry would be vying to be a part of Crossrail – and ultimately we were confident Martin Roberts steel doorsets conformed to the specification and were the most reliable product for such high footfall public areas, where safety and security are of paramount importance. We are now looking forward to moving into the delivery phase of the project and to adding value to Crossrail.”

Designed and made in the UK, Martin Roberts steel doorsets provide for fire, acoustic, thermal, security and cleanroom use. They are the makers add specified in general commercial, education, transport, retail, sports and leisure, scientific, health and pharmaceutical locations. All doorsets are made to suit requirements and can incorporate features such as vision panels, louvres, side and overpanels. The range of single, double, hinged or pivoted performance doorsets are supplied in a range of colours and finishes.
