CCTV car for Leeds

by Mark Rowe

Leeds City Council has taken delivery of a new CCTV car from a UK supplier of intelligent traffic enforcement and management products. The new vehicle will be used to provide unattended enforcement of a range of offences including parking on city centre bus stops and school keep clears.

Mark Jefford, Parking Manager at Leeds City Council, said: “Videalert systems have consistently delivered the highest level of productivity after a successful two-year pilot scheme which resulted in a reduction in offences of more than 74pc and faster journey times for public transport users. The new mobile enforcement vehicle provides us with the flexibility to target key areas where non-compliance by drivers is causing congestion or safety issues.”

The new mobile enforcement vehicle comes with a complete suite of Videalert software applications for it to be used for across traffic management applications. At the end of each shift, recorded data is uploaded to the Videalert Digital Video Platform that is already used to manage the council’s network of cameras which, in the first year alone, delivered a 90pc reduction in the number of motorists illegally driving in bus lanes.

The Videalert system automates the making of video evidence packs which are reviewed by council operatives before the sending of confirmed offences to the back office processing system for the issuance of penalty notices.

Tim Daniels, Sales and Marketing Director at Videalert said: “Leeds City Council is demonstrating the ease with which Videalert’s digital video platform can be cost-effectively expanded to allow a wide range of additional enforcement activities to be added. By adding the Videalert Mobile Enforcement Vehicle, they can effectively expand the capabilities of the system to target key city centre areas where opportunistic abuse of traffic regulations causes a safety risk, and fixed cameras are inappropriate.”
