Canine show traffic

by Mark Rowe

Bath Canine Society Championship Show has chosen Topher Ltd, to manage traffic and parking at its annual show, on the May bank holiday weekend at Three Shire Field, Bannerdown.

The Championship Show, now in its 87th year, is expecting 25,000 visitors over the four days, so parking and traffic management on the green field site are of utmost importance to the organisers.

Ben Ford, secretary of the Bath Canine Society and organiser of the Championship Show, said: “We’ve tried a few solutions for parking and traffic management in the past, but the results have never fully reflected the quality and professionalism of the Championship Show itself. In 2014, we resolved to seek out the services of specialists in the field, after experiencing serious issues with parking and the car park that threatened to impact on the show’s excellent reputation and standing.

“After careful research I compiled a shortlist of four firms to consult. Arriving at Topher, I was struck by how seriously the firm took its responsibilities, not only for directing and managing traffic but also for protecting and enhancing the reputation of its customers. I am looking forward to our 2015 show enormously now, confident the traffic management and parking services are in the hands of smart, efficient and experienced professionals with a strong service ethic.”

Topher Ltd. will be deploying 14 traffic stewards at the event, who will be directing and managing an expected 5000 vehicles. Chris Haywood, Topher’s managing director, said: “Topher has been awarded regional Community Safety Accreditation Scheme (CSAS) powers by Dorset Police, so our marshals have the necessary training and authority to direct, stop and divert traffic not only on site, but out on the public highway as well. It’s a vital component of delivering effective traffic management, especially at popular events like this.”

About the show

This year the society is expecting an entry of 8000 dogs, and the show will be on a 50 acre site, four miles from Bath. Entrance for members of the general public is free, and there is a £5 charge for parking.
