Young Professionals launch

by Mark Rowe

The ASIS International UK Young Professionals (YP) Group hosted events in April and May. That was the launch of a group aimed at supporting young security and risk management people in the UK.

The inaugural meeting was held at the Aon Centre in London in April as a chance for young professionals to network and discuss education, and advancement in the field. The YP Committee organised a session that included a panel discussion on issues affecting YPs in the UK followed by a relaxed Q&A session.
A second event at the Security and Counter Terror Expo on Thursday, May 4, had a focus on the convergence of Physical and Cyber Security to mitigate against terrorism.

Further sessions are planned on technology and cyber-security, career development, business skills and other topics. Also planned for launch later in 2017 is a mentorship programme, as an way to support YPs.

Stuart Eustace CPP, YP Committee Lead said:“Attendees at these sessions were some of the young talent in the industry and it was a pleasure to speak to so many who are eager to develop their careers. The level of engagement and the vibrant conversation demonstrate the interest in advancement among YPs in the UK.”

The YP Committee seeks to:

1.Generally support young and new professionals including learning, career development and progression for young and new professionals;
2.Attract new members to the security and risk management industry;
3.Plan a calendar of events that engage young professionals and help them develop.

The YP Committee welcomes interest in attending and input on events. Contact Stuart Eustace CPP at [email protected] and James Morris CPP, Committee Mentoring Lead, at [email protected]. For updates join the ASIS UK Young Professional Group on LinkedIn.
