Trailblazer standard launch

by Mark Rowe

On Wednesday, February 22, the Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Apprenticeship Trailblazer will be officially launched in central London.

The event is jointly hosted at the offices in Blackfriars of UBM, owners of IFSEC, by the British Security Industry Association (BSIA), Fire Industry Association (FIA) and the Fire and Security Association (FSA) including a networking lunch being sponsored by CSL Dualcom.

The Trailblazer, which is a level three apprenticeship, has been developed by the Trailblazer Employer Group, with the support of the BSIA, FIA and FSA, with other industry stakeholders, and gained Government approval last year. The Government’s Trailblazer initiative focuses on employer-designed apprenticeship standards for apprentices’ training and assessment to meet industry and business needs.

The new Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Trailblazer standard will replace the current industry apprenticeship framework. It aims to equip apprentices with core knowledge and skills, including health and safety, electrical and electronic principles, practices and procedures, core systems, system technologies and environmental principles, as well as customer service, communication and commercial awareness.

Pat Allen, Chairman of the Trailblazer Employer Group, pictured, said: “The new Trailblazer standard provided an opportunity for employers within the fire and security sectors to come together and influence the future of our industry. Together, we were able to create a clear and cohesive standard that will give apprentices the core skills and experience needed to excel within their roles.”

The launch event will feature addresses from industry figures. To register to attend the event, go to: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/RZ62YV6.
