The week of November 24 to 30 is the UK’s first National Counter Terrorism Awareness Week. The authorities seek to spread awareness of the threats to crowded places, how terrorists finance their actions, and what are terrorists’ tools. For pdfs of leaflets and posters for display on each day’s theme, visit the Nactso website. UK businesses are being asked to review their resilience and emergency preparedness planning, and take advantage of the information, guidance and tools available.
Visit http://www.nactso.gov.uk/CTAW2014. For specific advice relating to your operation, contact the nationwide specialist police advisers known as Counter Terrorism Security Advisers (CTSAs) through your local police force. They are co-ordinated by the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO).
See the December 2014 print issue of Professional Security magazine for the latest on the counter-terror patrolling and deterring of hostile reconnaissance, Project Servator in the City of London, pictured.
Nactso make the point that measures you may consider for countering terrorism will also work against other threats, such as theft and burglary. See for instance Nactso’s ‘Crowded Places’ publications.
