Spring detox

by Mark Rowe

An information security awareness consultancy developed a ‘Spring Detox’ mini-campaign via Virgin Media’s intranet, to highlight how employees can help people stay safe online both at work and at home.

Around 14,000 employees were targeted by the campaign which also saw 3,000 ‘security detox’ smoothies handed out by Virgin Media’s Group Security team members to colleagues around the country including at the company’s headquarters in Hook, Hampshire, as well as in London, Sheffield, Bradford, Birmingham and Cardiff. The smoothies were accompanied by a ‘top tips’ leaflet highlighting key points to raise security awareness.

Denise Beardon is Team Lead for The Security Company on the account: “In developing our strategy, it was really vital that we maintained the ‘voice’ of Virgin Media which is so distinctive. With this in mind we created a campaign that was young, fresh, dynamic and fun. As we became a virtual extension of the brand, the buy-in was fast and successful, as shown by the very positive engagement. Virgin Media is a forward-looking company and it has been a delight to develop the strategy, with the emphasis on a collaborative approach, which has paid dividends from the outset as can be seen by the results.”

John White, Head of Group Security at Virgin Media, said: “The internet makes incredible things happen but there are some risks to be managed. Security awareness is essential so we want to empower our workforce so they can best help our customers, as well as their friends and family in their working and personal lives, to make the most of the online world. We needed a company that wouldn’t try and fit us into some corporate mould and The Security Company has excelled in echoing our brand values and tone of voice. This first campaign has really grabbed people’s attention and we’ve had lots of great conversations with our colleagues about how to stay secure online at home. It was great to see there is a real appetite for the subject and the sort of information we can provide.”
