At a recent meeting of the Business Continuity Institute (BCI) Board of Directors, James McAlister FBCI became the new chairman of the BCI. He takes over at the London-based from David James-Brown FBCI after his two years in office.
James is a former police officer with over 30 years of background in business continuity, civil protection, emergency planning, security, firearms, public order and training. He has advised and contributed to operations and exercises throughout the UK and internationally including political party conferences, sporting events, VIP visits, counter terrorism operations, public order events and environmental or man-made emergencies. James has won a number of awards including the Public Sector Business Continuity Manager of the Year Award at the BCI European awards in 2014.
James said: “David James-Brown has left the Institute in a much better position than it has ever been in before. We are financially stable, have a wider global presence, offer more member services, and provide more research papers. Possibly his greatest legacy is yet to be realised in the Institute’s new customer relationship management system which doesn’t go live until next year. I would like to thank David on behalf of all the membership for his dedication, loyalty, hard work and leadership over the last two years and wish him well as he returns to his successful consultancy business.”
As announced previously, Tim Janes now becomes Vice Chair of the BCI after being voted in by his fellow members of the Global Membership Council; and Roberto Grosso Ciponte MBCI becomes the new Membership Director. Executive Director of the industry body is David Thorp, previously of the Security Institute.
