Mentoring pilot

by Mark Rowe

Mike Alexander MSc FSyI, the chairman of ASIS International UK Chapter, writes that the UK Chapter has been selected to participate in a “Mentoring Security Leaders” pilot.

This program is designed to match experienced security professionals with individuals who are new to the industry or those looking to advance into leadership positions. Mentors who successfully complete the program will receive CPP recertification points (if applicable).

The “Mentoring Security Leaders Program” was developed by the ASIS International “Leadership Management Practices Council. It is currently being piloted in Boston, Chicago, Phoenix, Los Angeles and San Francisco ASIS International Chapters. The “Mentoring Security Leaders” program is a process where an ASIS member (Protégé) is matched with an experienced ASIS colleague (Mentor), and is designed to promote long term leadership and career development through a one-on-one Mentor-Protégé relationship.

The length of the mentoring relationship is recommended to be 12 months; however the length of the mentoring relationship should be agreed upon by the Mentor and Protégé. Of great value is that any ASIS Member at any level may participate.

The goal for the pilot program is to establish at least six mentoring relationships starting in early February. We have asked David Gibbs and / or members from his Council to present the program via a webinar to those interested in participating in the pilot. Anyone who is interested in this program can contact Mike Alexander at ARX Associates: email [email protected].
