Houlis in NZ

by Mark Rowe

A UK installer will be among speakers at the New Zealand Security Association (NZSA) conference on safe and secure cities, in Auckland next month.

Managing Director of North Shields-based 2020 Vision Systems, Peter Houlis, will be alongside Jason Brown, national security director for the Thales Group in Australia, and US-based Miki Calero, founder of Urbis Global LLC.

Houlis, pictured, was a speaker at Professional Security magazine’s ST15 Newcastle event, in July. He said: “It is a huge honour to receive an invite to present at the upcoming conference. Being the only UK-based installation specialist and indeed the only one from Europe on the programme, is a special privilege. The NZSA is the preeminent representative body for the country and is hugely respected throughout the global security industry, so I feel very proud that I’ll be representing not only the UK, but more specifically putting the North East on the map down there.”

His company, founded in 1992 in North Shields, installs for the NHS, universities such as Birmingham and Newcastle, police, Stena Line, Tata Steel and various towns and cities. 2020 recently won the contract to supply street CCTV to South Shields 365 as part of a £100m redevelopment of South Shields town centre.

Bronwyn Paul from the NZSA said: “It is an absolute privilege that Mr Houlis will be taking the time to join us in New Zealand. His name and his company’s surveillance solutions have become synonymous in the global security industry. They provide results that mix the very best in contemporary technology with deep and long-seated experience. We know conference attendees are looking forward to hearing about his experiences as much as we are.”

Houlis caught the eye of the NZ security trade body through his early deployment of CCTV in Newcastle and Edinburgh city centre, as well his personal and involvement with Safe Kiev, a long running programme to improve safety on the streets of the Ukrainian capital before the Orange revolution and its more recent crises.
