The manufacturer C-TEC teamed up with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in an effort to stimulate interest in engineering.

A joint C-TEC/IET ‘Celebration of Engineering’ day attracted delegates seeking to know more about UK manufacturing. Held at C-TEC’s Challenge Way head offices in Wigan, the CPD-certified event gave guests an insight into the 35-year history of the life-safety equipment manufacturer and an overview of the IET, the engineering body.

Presentations included ‘Virtual 3D design backed up by physical testing and tooling’ – a timeline of the design, development and certification of a visual alarm device – and ‘Fire Alarms: A brief history and the current state of the industry’.

On a tour of C-TEC’s factory, visitors were invited to watch demonstrations of JUKI surface mount machines placing components at an rate of 60,000 an hour and visit the training rooms where C-TEC trains over 1000 engineers a year.

Andy Green, C-TEC’s Marketing Manager said afterwards: “The event was highly successful. We are very proud of our world-class manufacturing and training facility and welcomed the opportunity to showcase it to potential clients, industry partners and future employees.”

And Andrew Kaldos of the IET’s Manufacturing and Management Group said: “The organisation of the event, venue and presentations was fantastic and the quality of the food and catering service was absolutely outstanding.”
