The gathering of IT and security people heard from several speakers; including John Unsworth, chief executive of London Digital Security Centre, that in January it’s launching a ‘cyber hygiene programme’. The audience heard about the legal and general business experiences of dealing with a cyber data breach – which included the ‘Friday at five to six’ effect. Why is it that the phone call about a breach always seems to come on a Friday night? Two reasons were suggested – hackers know you’re at your weakest before the weekend; and staff want to escalate key information before they go home.
