Cyber Rescue Alliance in London

by Mark Rowe

The 17th floor of law firm Nabarro in London EC2 was the venue for the London meeting by the Cyber Rescue Alliance on Thursday morning, October 13. Pictured just before the event are organisers Barrie Millett, the former E.ON UK head of security and resilience; Kevin Duffey, Alliance MD; JF Cecillon; and Zeeshan Tayyeb. For more about them, visit the Alliance’s website.

The gathering of IT and security people heard from several speakers; including John Unsworth, chief executive of London Digital Security Centre, that in January it’s launching a ‘cyber hygiene programme’. The audience heard about the legal and general business experiences of dealing with a cyber data breach – which included the ‘Friday at five to six’ effect. Why is it that the phone call about a breach always seems to come on a Friday night? Two reasons were suggested – hackers know you’re at your weakest before the weekend; and staff want to escalate key information before they go home.
