BSIA at IFSEC 2017

by Mark Rowe

On all three days of IFSEC International 2017, besides the show floor, the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) has events planned. On stand B1300, the BSIA remains a partner of IFSEC, with a variety of BSIA staff and members partaking in this year’s seminars and debates. As well as providing a lounge for BSIA members to relax in or hold meetings, this year the BSIA will also be hosting some events on its stand.

Firstly, on Wednesday, June 21, at 12:30pm, the BSIA will host to a networking event, sponsored by NetVu Ltd, who will be joined by one of IFSEC’s inspirational speakers, rock star turned physicist, Professor Brian Cox OBE. Attendees can talk physics or music with Brian over a light lunch and drinks, with representatives from NetVu also being on hand to discuss some of their latest technology.

After that networking lunch, the BSIA will be continuing the theme of cyber security at a Cyber Security Services Launch event. The BSIA recognises the fact that cyber security is essential, and has been taking steps to ensure the association can guide its members on this issue. Hence the BSIA’s recent Cyber Security event in Scotland, with the Scottish Business Resilience Centre, and the formation of the BSIA’s Cyber Security Product Assurance Group (CySPAG), which aims to provide education and guidance on best practice in cyber resilience to product manufacturers, installers and end users.

Dave Wilkinson, Technical Director at the BSIA, will be launching the association’s official cyber offering at the BSIA’s stand at 1:15pm on Wednesday, June 21. The event will include the unveiling of the BSIA’s new cyber webpage, as well as announcing exclusive member discounts on cyber security training and the Cyber Essentials certification scheme, recognised by UK Government. Ian Kerr, from ID Cyber Solutions, will deliver a presentation on the key elements of Cyber Essentials.

Dave Wilkinson says: “The BSIA has been working on a number of initiatives to ensure the Association is abreast of the latest developments in cyber security and, through our “trusted partner” initiative, are best placed to provide practical advice and guidance to both BSIA members and the general public. IFSEC will be the perfect platform to showcase our official position on cyber, as well as announcing some trusted partner services and genuine discounts that will be extremely beneficial to our members.”

The Association is also an official supporter of the Engineers of Tomorrow Competition, which sees young apprentices compete against each other in a live installation challenge. In the competition over the three days of the exhibition, the young engineers compete in the Installer Zone from 10am every day.
