Auto theft training date

by Mark Rowe

The UK Branch of the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators – IAATI UK is to run a one day Autocrime Training event at Greater Manchester Police (GMP), Sedgely Park Training School, Preswich, on Saturday, March 1.

After a previous event at Portishead in November 2013, IAATI UK has put together a similar training event, for those living and working in the north of the country and Scotland. The organiser of this day at Sedgely Park is Simon Ingham. He retired from Lancashire Police at the end of 2013 after 30 years service. As a Detective Sergeant he has served on a number of crime squads investigating serious and organised crime which included a spell in the capital investigating the July 7, 2005 attacks with the Anti Terrorist Branch.

For the last seven years as the leader of the force Organised Vehicle Crime Team he has delivered training to a variety of officers and university students studying vehicle crime. He has also chaired the North West Region’s Cross Border Stolen Vehicle Conference. While investigating vehicle crime he led a team of investigators to Benidorm and recovered 35 stolen UK caravans which led to high profile publicity about stolen caravans abroad.

Recent investigations have resulted in prison sentences totalling over 100 years and the recovery and restraint of criminal assets valued at £3m. Simon regretfully acknowledges that the current trend is to disestablish vehicle crime units and he is acutely aware that there is a need to retain and disseminate the skills and knowledge he has acquired to police officers.

Who should attend?

Vehicle examiners and investigators from law enforcement agencies;
Insurers;
Independent investigators
Those with interest in the reduction and investigation of vehicle related crime.

The cost of the training day is £25 for IAATI UK members and £45 for non-members.
