In his new book Workplace Security Essentials he suggests treating business and workplace security the same as a martial arts karate student . He concludes: “Start with the items you can change. Often some simple changes can make drastic improvements in security. Be persistent and do not lose focus on the security topics or concerns that threaten your business.”
He argues for looking at business security as a sort of self-defence, only on a scale larger than yourself. He writes: “Security is not just electronic devices such as video surveillance or alarms. It is more than locks, gates, and keys. Security is more than policies and procedures. Security is a management process. A comprehensive security management program is not just a necessary evil or unavoidable cost. It actually is a business-enabling service. Security protects critical assets and employees and helps the company manage and recognise risks and survive during emergencies or critical incidents.”
He covers workplace security issues from hiring and employee theft to dealing with violence in the workplace and active shooters (a subject that he teaches), emergency planning and personal safety.
