Academy award

by Mark Rowe

Lucie Banham, Director at the south west London-based security company, Banham Group, has been awarded the BSIA Chairman’s Award for Contribution to Training at an awards lunch in the association’s 50th year.

The awards, at the Grand Connaught Rooms, recognise individuals and organisations that have made a special contribution to the security industry. Banham’s win came for its educational arm, the Banham Academy.

Banham launched the Academy in 2014. It’s registered on the Government’s Register of Apprenticeship Providers, and works with colleges and other agencies to provide employment opportunities for young people in areas such as traineeships and apprenticeships.

Lucie Banham said: ‘I am honoured to be awarded the BSIA Chairman’s Award for Contribution to Training. I am extremely proud of the team behind the Banham Academy and all the hard work they have put into developing and training all of our apprentices and trainees. This award is really in recognition of all of them too. It is so important to invest in the future generations and give young people the opportunity to grow a long-term career. We are committed to ensuring a pipeline of bright, young engineers not just for Banham but for the Industry as a whole.’

James Kelly, Chief Executive of the BSIA said: “With apprenticeships playing an increasingly important role within the security industry, it is excellent to see training academies like Banham’s paving the way for young engineers. We wanted to present Lucie Banham with our Chairman’s Award for Contribution to Training as a mark of recognition for the hard work and dedication she has shown in providing opportunities for young apprentices in order to bridge the skills gap within the industry.”

Kevin Faulker, Head of the Banham Academy, is pictured left collecting the award from BSIA chairman Dirk Wilson. Kevin added: ‘This is a proud moment for the Banham Academy, to be recognised for our commitment to supporting young people and giving them the training and skills to build careers within the security industry. We understand just how vital it is to invest in young people and ensure that our industry continues to grow with talented and skilled engineers.’
