Retail filters

by Mark Rowe

In retail stores CCTV cameras are no longer used only to prevent and explain shoplifting and burglary, writes the German CCTV manufacturers RIVA.

Nowadays IP cameras with special analytic filters are also used as a marketing tool to gain data about customer behaviour and thus optimise marketing activities.

Out of several filters offered by RIVA, an individual analysis package can be designed to meet requirements of the different retail stores. The counting filter is probably the most important filter. Using this filter, customers, who walk through a predefined zone inside the store or crossing a counting line for example at entrances and exits, can be counted without any problems, even in crowds. Knowing the exact number of customers, several optimisation measures can be adopted. For example, by examining this data, it can be determined, if marketing activities were successful or if products should be placed differently.

Also staff schedules can be adapted to the number of customers. Detailed information, which optimization measures result from the RIVA counting filter, are given in the RIVA case study using the example of the Croatian retail chain Pevec. (rivatech.de/en/about-riva/press-releases ).

Another important filter is the dwell filter. Applying this filter, retailers can check if customers dwell within a specific zone, for example at cash points, longer than determined. If customers queue too long at cash points, an alarm can be triggered directly and additional staff can be deployed. As a result waiting times are reduced and customer satisfaction increases. With the people tracking filter objects are tracked in defined areas to analyse walkways and thus improve the store layout or product placement.

RIVA´s RC3202HD dome, RC 3402IR dome and RIVA´s RC3302HD remote controllable dome are optimal suitable for retail stores. RIVA´s RC3302HD IP-camera for indoor applications has a remote controllable pan and tilt function as well as a remote zoom/focus control. Thus the camera can be focused via mouse click automatically. The installation can be made easily and quickly even by people with limited technical knowledge. All zones and lines can be set up individually due to an individual VCA setting for each position. Ten predefined positions can be monitored automatically via a timer function. RIVAs RC3402IR is also suitable for indoor applications. The new RIVA camera is equipped with ten integrated high power IR-LED’s and thus achieves an illumination distance up to 15m. RIVA´s RC3202HD for indoor usage is especially designed for projects with high camera volumes. Combined with the special video analytic filters, all three cameras offer an optimal basis for marketing activities.

In the fourth part you will get to know, which filters and cameras are necessary for optimal traffic surveillance.
