Police CCTV date

by Mark Rowe

After the riots in London of August 2011, the Metropolitan Police are holding a conference on Wednesday, September 18 at New Scotland Yard for the CCTV sector to discuss lessons learnt, good and bad practice and how to improve the overall effectiveness of CCTV.

Detective Chief Inspector Mick Neville, Metropolitan Police said: “CCTV continues to be the biggest contributor to successful prosecutions of rioters and looters from 2011. During the course of the investigation into the disorder many lessons have been learnt in relation to use of CCTV. The Metropolitan Police is keen to share this learning with CCTV operators, managers and trainers – as well as anyone else involved in providing such evidence – to ensure that CCTV produces even more successful prosecutions and makes our communities safer.”

Spaces are limited and offered on a first come first served basis, say organisers. For details visit the Skills for Security website.

Runs 10.30am to 2pm – speakers include: DCI Mick Neville; Det Supt Bill Lyle, head of the 2011 riots investigations; Simon Gordon of Facewatch; Steve Swain, former Met man now CEO of 3rd Forensics, featured in the August print issue of Professional Security Magazine; and Dr Josh Davis of the University of Greenwich, on ‘super recognisers’.
