Dutch HD

Albert Heijn Veldhoven, part of the Ahold group of international supermarkets, has rolled out IP CCTV to reduce and prevent shrinkage while improving the overall shopping experience. Like many retailers, Albert Heijn Veldhoven wanted to use CCTV and recording to combat shoplifting, and analyse pedestrian routes and footfall.

With some 227 franchise stores in the Netherlands, for more than ten years, Albert Heijn Veldhoven has used IDIS OEM products, with much of their original equipment still operating. When the time came to upgrade to high-definition (HD), Albert Heijn’s security looked to IDIS Benelux and its DirectIP product.

Albert Heijn’s store in Veldhoven now features 16 DirectIP HD cameras with a 32-channel network video recorder (NVR) featuring a 24-port PoE switch while using multi-spot monitors and a client PC with IDIS Center video management software. HD CCTV allows the recognition and detection of suspicious behaviour. The security manager and cafeteria have 42-inch monitors displaying 16 live camera views at once and in real-time to provide a 360-degree view of the store.

Installed by Hollander Techniek in two days, this is the first DirectIP install in the Netherlands. Carlo Kuijer, CEO, IDIS Benelux said: “We have demonstrated right before the launch at IFSEC that DirectIP provides a simple and low cost migration from analogue systems that are extremely quick and easy to install and operate. The Albert Heijn Veldhoven security team has quickly adjusted with little training, while benefiting from HD picture quality and simultaneous live view and record across multiple cameras. This allows the team to support their objectives to prevent and detect crime while improving the overall shopping experience for customers. The initial reactions from the end-users and the installer are extremely positive and we look forward to continuing to work with them to further roll-out DirectIP across Benelux.”

DirectIP from IDIS launched at IFSEC, NEC Birmingham in May.
