Women in Security Awards

by Mark Rowe

The Security Institute was able to claim three candidates nominated for the Industry Award at this year’s Women in Security Awards, presented during the IPSA Chairman’s annual dinner in London on Thursday evening, September 17.

The award was won by Emma Shaw CSyP, pictured, immediate past chairman for her work on the Institute’s Manifesto for Professional Security. Among suggestions for better collaboration by organisations across the sector was a ‘Security Commonwealth’ to act as a rallying point for groups to develop and speak with a single voice on the main issues. This Commonwealth has now been formed and is beginning to work in the sector.

Also nominated were Security Institute Vice Chair, Dr Alison Wakefield, of the University of Portsmouth for her work in encouraging high calibre entrants into the profession and Lynn Watts-Plumpkin of IQ Verify for the role she has played in shaping standards within the security industry. Lynn chairs the Institute’s Standards Committee.

Institute Chairman Garry Evanson CSyP said: “It is fantastic that three out of four of the nominees for this award play a prominent role in the activities of the Security Institute as members, as officers or as active participants in our key activities. We have always set out to promote security as an excellent career for women and the Women in Security Awards – which we will be hosting in 2016 – open an excellent window into the many ways in which women are active across the sector.”
