Bumper charity total at ST15 Heathrow

by Mark Rowe

The networking dinner before ST15 Heathrow raised a bumper £6300 for charity.

Diners at the Park Inn Hotel, the evening before the conference-exhibition, heard from Allen Parton, founder of Hounds for Heroes, pictured centre. The former Royal Navy man spoke of his life after serious injury which included five years at Headley Court in Surrey, now the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre; and his and others’ lives now with assistance dogs. The £2500 raised by diners from the raffle and ‘heads and tails’ game (won by Simon Rolfe from Xtralis) was already more than any of the previous dozen dinners. Further donations by Tim Northwood of Inner Range, Phil Tennent of Pelco, Clive Talbot of installer Vindex, Paul Singh of distributor and ST15 conference sponsor Y3K, Professional Security magazine, Steve Klapiscak of Canon, and Mike Tolley of Hikvision took the total well past the £5000 whereby the charity will name the dog after the donor. The next day the ST15 conference chairman Mike White (himself a donor) told the audience that an assistance dog will be named with reference to the security industry (typically, names are military-related). Mike said that if anybody has a particularly pertinent name to suggest, to contact Professional Security MD Roy Cooper.

Allen Parton was the last winner on the raffle and then auctioned off the prize, a seat at the Security Institute annual December curry night; bought by Paul Singh.

Other ST15 Heathrow sponsors were Canon; the distributor Anixter (whose Jarrod Booth was the by now traditional coin-tosser for the equally traditional ‘heads and tails’ game) and CSL DualCom.
