TV Pirate Fight

by msecadm4921

A new security chip development between Cryptography Research and STMicroelectronics seeks to help Pay-TV and conditional access providers fight pay-TV piracy.

Systems for securing pay-TV services have traditionally been implemented either by using removable security modules (typically smart cards or Cable Cards) or pure software. Separate hardware modules are expensive and have difficult-to-secure interfaces with the set top box. In contrast, software-only approaches are limited in the security they can achieve. The new chip development will provide more robust security at a lower cost than was possible, it’s claimed.
