The Two Towers

by msecadm4921

Installers Indigo was asked to install a security system at the construction site of a new build, prestigious private house in Crowthorne, Berkshire.

Andrew Hills, a director at Indigo says: "Our company specialises in temporary CCTV installations. Construction sites are ever changing environments and as a result their security needs alter as they develop. It is uncommon to install a system at a private house and the effectiveness of the system impressed even us."

The owner of the new property manages a construction company himself; and Indigo has already installed a number of systems at his work sites. He has suffered theft of heavy duty construction machinery worth thousands of pounds and as a result knows of the need for security systems at construction sites.

Temporary towers

Indigo installed two temporary CCTV towers at the property. A master tower was on the long drive leading to the property, to monitor site visitors, recording video and time information. A second tower was installed facing the property itself to monitor build progress and general site activity. Each tower held two fixed cameras monitoring the property 24-7. The towers were connected with a network communications cable but each had separate power supplies. A TeleEye RX Video Recorder Transmitter in the master tower then recorded all site activity while enabling network access, via a broadband service, for remote, off-site PC viewing and system control. The tower design not only made installation quick and simple but allowed for easy repositioning as building work progressed, the installers report.

Visits to and from the property were recorded and date-stamped. Any unauthorised vehicle was identified as such, and an audible warning activated. The work at the site was remotely monitored, providing video confirmation of supplier deliveries, staff attendance and building progress. The system also enabled the owner to view the site remotely using his 3G mobile phone. This function was used for management and operational purposes when he was not on site and removed the need to continuously supervise site staff in person. The owner even showed this off in his local pub and is convinced this helped to reduce site burglary attempts to nil.

Andrew Hills of Indigo adds: "TeleEye remote transmission products are ideal for the temporary security systems we install. Only a power connection is necessary, with all video and audio data recorded off site. Mobile phone or PDA access is a great bonus with many of our customers finding it valuable for remote site management purposes. It is unusual to find another product that can do all this. Our customer experienced no theft at the Crowthorne site and the work force and suppliers were managed efficiently and thoroughly at all times. The system will undoubtedly have paid for itself many times over!"
