The Security Industry Authority (SIA) has announced the standard definition for the Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) for the private security industry – what some in contract guarding firms regard as the crunch to do with regulation, rather than the individual badges.
The definition outlines the criteria and indicators for the ACS and the required evidence to achieve ACS status. You can download the definition at www.the-sia.org.uk
The ACS Strategy was developed, the SIA says, after extensive consultation with key stakeholders in the security industry. It is, the SIA adds, a voluntary initiative with the aim to be recognised as a ‘hallmark’ of quality by customers, that is intended to raise performance standards and develop new opportunities for the private security industry.
What they say
John Saunders, Chief Executive of the SIA said: "The SIA aims to ensure tangible and realistic business benefits will be available to all organisations in the private security industry seeking ACS accreditation. We believe the success of the ACS will be reflected in higher standards, a competitive industry, improved skills and the development of new markets, ultimately leading to increased margins and the attraction of financial investment." The minimum level for entry to ACS is expected to be published in the autumn, the authority adds.
