Oxford Event

by msecadm4921

Counter-terrorism will be the focus of a free one-day security focused event, aimed at the Thames Valley business community.

The event – similar, spring ones have been running for years in Manchester – will be held on Wednesday, November 11 at Unipart House, Oxford, and will involve presentations from Thames Valley Police on ‘hostile reconnaissance’ and on how businesses can protect themselves against crime and terrorism. There will also be a taster session for businesses on Project Griffin, by PC Jason Swales.

Griffin, already running in London and other cities and starting in the Thames Valley force area, is an initiative which seeks to coordinate the police, other emergency services, local authorities, business and the private security industry to combat terrorism.

Chris Pinder, British Security Industry Association Southern Regional General Manager, says: "Counter-terrorism should be on the agenda for all businesses in the Thames Valley area and this event aims to provide organisations with the latest information and guidance on security issues that may affect them. The event includes a free exhibition offering visitors the opportunity to find out more about a host of the latest security products and services. This is an unmissable event for businesses wishing to find out more about further protecting their key assets such as premises and staff. "

Nick Gilbert, Thames Valley Police Business Crime Reduction and Engagement Manager, says: "We all have a part to play in reducing the incidence of any type of crime occurring, be it criminal damage or acts of terrorism. Any type of crime can, and will, impact on your business. This event will provide valuable lessons for businesses looking to improve their own security and contribute to safer communities."

The event, sponsored by forensic marking product company Selectamark Security Systems, is organised by Thames Valley Police and the British Security Industry Association, with the Milton Keynes & Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the Federation of Small Businesses.

Andrew Knights, MD of Selectamark, will talk about DNA forensic marking products.

The event will open at 9am, finishing with lunch for delegates and an opportunity to network with other local businesses.
