A free business crime conference and exhibition for north east England is running at the Gateshead Marriott on Thursday, February 2….

Organisers say that their aim is to bring together businesses based in the North East to launch the newly formed North East Business Crime Centre as a single regional centre of excellence to assist in preventing, detecting and deterring crime, in a cohesive partnership approach.

The event is aimed at providing advice and guidance to key decision-makers from local authorities, retailers, blue chip companies, SMEs, health authorities, facilities managers, consultants and the police.

Vision

As organisers say, many retailers buy into local business crime partnerships and radio schemes. However, there has been a significant amount of under-reporting of business crime in the UK due to a lack of investment in tools to record and analyse crime statistics, making it difficult for businesses to target persistent offenders and organised gangs.

The Cardinal Group is rolling out the National Business Crime Solution which will provide a centralised, managed service that enables analysis of level one and level two business crime data on a national level. The solution will collate, process and distribute local, regional and national information on business crime, providing one single platform for data entry and reporting.

Regional hub

We want to prove the concept of a ‘Regional Business Crime Hub’ acting as a conduit for all Business and Community Crime in order to support local policing plans and priorities, providing a systematic solution for businesses, to willingly engage and benefit from a managed service whereby they feel supported by the partnership and encouraged to take ownership of local problems and issues, raising awareness and establishing solutions to prevent and deter crime against their business and the community as a whole.
Information and Intelligence Sharing Platform
In order to create an effective regional hub, we need an effective, simple, crime reporting and information sharing solution, focusing on best service delivery and providing added value to all our businesses and partners.
CR:IISP provides a single mechanism for the collection, collation and distribution of crime against business, allowing a regional operation to provide a managed service solution, benefiting all businesses locally and regionally whilst feeding into and adding to the wider national picture.
CR:IISP is not as a ‘database’ but a live ‘Information and Intelligence Sharing Platform’. Providing a dynamic, proactive solution to combat retail and business crime.
Delegates will be treated to an exclusive insight from key partners, police and security specialists both nationally and regionally in support of the North East Business Crime Centre and our key objectives.

Speakers to include:

Assistant Chief Constable Paul Broadbent, Nottinghamshire Police: ACPO Lead on Business Crime, who will discuss the impact on police of today’s changing business world and the challenges we face.

Deputy Chief Constable Mike Barton, Durham Constabulary: ACPO Lead on Intelligence, who will discuss the importance of Information and Intelligence Sharing throughout the business community.

Mick Phipps, Wilkinson Hardware Stores: National Loss Prevention, who will give an overview of the National Retailers perspective on working in partnership to support Local, Regional and National priorities.

Mike Cherry, LIWSc FRSA Federation of Small Businesses, National Policy Chairman.

Dave Hunter, Crimestoppers, North East Regional Manager, who will give an overview to raise awareness of the charity including National and Regional Campaigns for 2012.

Kevin J McMenimen, Enabl-u Technologies, President/CEO, LERPnet, an insight into how the States are tackling Business Crime together.

Phil Butler, Newcastle University, Centre for Cybercrime & Computer Security

Heather Armstrong and Dawn Robinson, Northumbria Coalition Against Crime.

Advice and guidance will also be on hand from exhibitors, including security consultants, service providers and manufacturers, who will be showcasing the latest products and services available to help our businesses tackle crime.

Sponsors and exhibitors
A limited number of exhibition stand spaces are also available, giving suppliers operating Regionally and Nationally an opportunity to promote their products and services to a diverse range of businesses. With the cost of exhibiting at just £650 plus VAT, potential exhibitors are encouraged to act quickly to book their space.
