Cybertrak, the lone worker protection service using GPS from Orbis Monitoring, is now available as Cybertrak II.
The company reports a lighter Twig Discovery Pro GPS/GSM handset from Benefon that features a new satellite navigation option.
In an emergency, at the push of a button workers can connect to operators at the Orbis 24-7 response centre in Cheshire. Satellite positioning technology linked to on screen mapping with street-level detail will show operators, and any staff personnel with internet access, where the lone worker is calling from to within around 5m. Meanwhile, the two-way voice channel will record the incident on DVD.
Orbis Monitoring director David Armstrong said: “It’s been worth the wait to find a GPS device that is smaller and more sensitive, while still being reliable. The Cybertrak II handset has all the features you‚d expect from a mobile phone in 2007, calendar and contacts synchronisation, internet and email access. It also has satellite navigation, although we are advising that this is used only when the handset can be plugged in to avoid having no battery left in an emergency.” The handset weighs 128g, measures 116mm by 51mm by 24mm and has a standby battery time of 210 hours.
