Guide To CCTV

by msecadm4921

A beginners guide to the world of CCTV has been produced by CBC (Europe).

It’s designed, the CCTV manufacturer says, to demystify surveillance for readers such as installation companies new to the sector, plus electrical contractors interested in working with CCTV to supplement existing business.

CBC’s free 63-page Pocket Guide to CCTV – which is being launched through distributors and electrical contractors – provides an understanding of the basic roles and functions of the diverse range of components and equipment used in closed-circuit television. Colour schematic diagrams explain how modular systems fit together and visually show how additional components may be needed for more advanced systems.

An applications matrix takes readers through the equipment selection process by describing how a suitable the company’s entry-level or intermediate-level kit can be deployed for various installations, from shops and offices through to residential perimeters, approach roads and even high security risks.

For those interested in moving on to a more advanced level, the guide describes how to design and build CCTV systems, showing how to produce a custom-made scheme for any type of activity, starting with component selection of items such as cameras, lenses, cabling, recording and monitoring equipment and illumination measures.

Also included in the publication is a dos and don’ts checklist, with tips on common installation pitfalls. The guide describes the basics that system installers need to know about data protection issues as well as how to fulfil the Operational Requirement needed for evidential purposes once the system is up and running.

Concluding the guide, a section of reference information covering client handover of the system plus ongoing preventative maintenance matters. This is followed by a A-Z glossary of terms, from ambient light to zoom lenses.
