Expect strong growth in manned guarding in the short term as a result of the increased costs of security services due to the licensing of the industry.

Overall, between 2004 and 2009 demand for manned security is anticipate to increase by 18 per cent in real terms, according to the forecast. The UK market for manned security has seen growth in each year of the five up to 2004, MBD say. The market was £2,759m in 2004, an overall increase of 41 per cent compared with 2000. All sectors of the manned security services market are expected to demonstrate growth in the five year forecast period to 2009. Most growth, the analysts say, will come in the custodial services sector, where the value is anticipated to grow by 51 per cent between 2004 and 2009. The market value of the cash in transit (CIT) sector is also expected to be strongly increased by 23% in real terms between 2004 and 2009. Manned guarding overall is anticipated to expand by 12 per cent in the same five years.
